Camp Jones Gulch is a branch of the YMCA of San Francisco, which is in turn a member of the international YMCA movement. At Camp Jones Gulch we build strong kids, strong families and strong communities through values-based programs in a natural, outdoor environment. Nestled in 927 acres of redwood forests, our camp and conference center is ideally located, just one hour south of San Francisco, one hour north of San Jose and a few short miles from the Pacific Ocean. History and Mission Our historic YMCA camp has hosted children, families and groups from the Bay Area for nearly 75 years. Summertime programs are available for campers ages 8-17 and include resident camp, teen adventure travel camps and family camps for kids of all ages. Jones Gulch was named after Mr. David Jones, who established a lumber mill and logging camp on the property in 1857. The YMCA of San Francisco started offering resident camping for youth in the Bay Area in 1897. In 1913 the need for a permanent camping site was established and the search was initiated. After having changed hands a few times, the 927-acre Jones Gulch property was acquired by the YMCA of San Francisco from Mrs. Black in 1934. She was inspired by the YMCA's camping program. Many of the original buildings are still in use today. The old mill is now our busy dining hall. Specialty groups and conferences use our facility for multiple types of programs including reunions, conferences, church retreats, youth groups and more. |
