Whether you are looking for a day of heart-pumping action, getting your team working together, or you just want to take in the majestic beauty of our nine hundred acre redwood forest- choosing Leadership Ventures at YMCA Camp Jones Gulch will have a lasting impact on your group. For decades, our Ropes Course has been the adventure learning facility of choice for thousands of youth, teens, and adults from all over the Bay Area and Northern California.

Course Specifics

The Ropes Course is spread throughout the forest in a secluded section of camp, away from the distraction of other activities or campers. Low events range from zero to six feet above the ground, and involve ropes, cables, and wood beams that present mental and physical challenges. High events are attached to large redwood trees at an average of thirty feet above ground. The Vanuwatu will satisfy any thrill seeker, standing seventy-five feet tall! The course is laid out in a way that separates each small field group, but also has central meeting spaces and can provide for large groups. Bring your management board, sports team, entire class or company.

History

The Ropes Course at YMCA Camp Jones Gulch was originally built in the early 1970’s and is California’s first Live High Ropes Course. Until 2006, the program and facilities were operated by Pro-Action Associates and their founder, the course designer Reno Taini. As one of the forerunners in adventure education on the West Coast, Pro Action Associates brought thousands of client groups to our site over the years.

Camp Jones Gulch has assumed responsibility for the course, equipment, and programs, and we have also been able to keep many of the staff that maintained Pro Action Associates for so long.

What Separates Us From the Rest?

While there are many other adventure learning companies out there, we believe that there are number of qualities that make our services superior. Here are a few examples; Staff-the experience level of many of our facilitators dates back in some cases longer than other companies have been in existence. Technology- we have recently instituted a new approach to preparing for your group and seeing the results that our programs produce.

Technology

Although we promote and embrace the gorgeous redwood backdrop that is Camp Jones Gulch, we have decided to incorporate some of the 21st century to make the most of your experience.

In an effort to better connect with group leaders AND all of the participants, we will be offering a specially designed online survey system to analyze your group before and after their experience. This will allow us to get a better feel for your expectations before you arrive, pinpoint any areas for concern that you may not be aware of, and offer reflection post-retreat.

Staff

With such a rich tradition of excellence at our Ropes Course we have been able to develop a strong, experienced, and dedicated staff. Our facilitators have been trained to ensure safety, provide insight, and especially to create an enjoyable experience. The standard participant to facilitator ratio of no more than 13:1 allows your group to really connect with our staff and focus on the goals of the retreat.

Overnight Retreats

What better way to enjoy a great day of adventure, than to make it a multiple day experience. Team up any Ropes Course experience with an overnight stay at Camp Jones Gulch and receive a discount. Features include heated cabins, indoor plumbing, quality camp dining, and meeting spaces. Reservation based on availability of cabin space.

Availability

The Ropes Course at YMCA Camp Jones Gulch is available for groups year-round, most any day of the year. Enjoying your retreat in the winter is made possible by our large canopy of trees and the use of tarps to protect open areas. Just bring a poncho and good pair of shoes!
